MBA Interview

GS speaks to Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dieter Fritsch...

Q: Who should do an MBA?

A: Nowadays the world economic changes rapidly. Companies quickly have to adjust to new global work situations or will they will fall back, or even have to give up. Therefore the management must be highly educated and prepared to solve global tasks. An MBA program will provide high-potentials and young professionals with all the necessary skills and tools needed. The MBA program suits young professionals who wish to improve their general management skills and strive for an international career. Students will enhance their soft skills, which are essential for a global career. Professionals seeking to widen their intercultural skills perfectly fit into an MBA program. A high level of education will definitely broaden ones horizon.

Q: What are the main differences in curriculum from one MBA program to another?

A: On the market you will only find very few MBA programs on university level like SIMT, IMD, London Business School and the top US business schools. Students have the option in choosing between three different ways of studying. They can attend a fulltime or part time MBA, or even a career integrated one.

Q: What's the attraction for someone from Asia for instance to pursue an MBA in Europe rather then anywhere else?

A: The location of a Business School plays a key role in picking the right school. It can truly be called a Business School if it is near business.

In Europe, global players such as DaimlerChrysler, Hewlett-Packard and Bosch, just to name a few, are located.

Q: Is it true that the main thing you get out of an MBA is the network of people you build up during the course of study?

A: Well, I would not say it is the main thing but it is one important aspect of an MBA. You will study with people from many different countries worldwide. This multicultural network can support your future career tremendously.

Q: Is there any link between communication, innovation and leadership?

A: In my opinion these three aspects are linked closely. Without communication no innovation is created and leadership is needed to realize the innovation. Actually all three depend on each other.

Q: Would you be excluded from ever being able to get a top leadership position without having done an MBA?

A: No, but it is definitely a door opener and perfectly prepares you for top leadership positions. With an MBA background you are much more confident in solving challenging leadership tasks.
